Over Pressure Burst Discs are designed as a safety device to help protect vacuum systems against accidental over-pressure. This can occur when internal gas or cryogenic liquid lines fail causing a rapid over pressure which could break view ports or damage delicate test equipment.
Over-pressure causes the thin foil diaphram to come into contact with the ten sharp edges of the housing and ruptures the foil diaphram. This relieves the pressure in the system. Once the foil diaphram has been ruptured, the unit must be replaced.
The disc is designed to burst with an over-pressure between atmosphere and a maximum pressure of 25psi with a 1.2sq. inch relief area. |
